More Lake District Images – Photos

Another delve into my files takes me back to a visit to The Lakes in April 2008, earlier this year.

I arrived on a Monday night in Ambleside as the sun was setting and spent an hour or so down in Waterhead near the Wateredge Inn taking a few photos of the lake boats.

The next day was a fantastic day with blue sky and a perfect day to tackle the Fairfield Horseshoe. This fantastic horseshoe shaped ridge walk takes in 8 Wainwrights – Nab Scar, Heron Pike, Great Rigg, Fairfield, Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike & Low Pike. Photos of this day will follow soon.

Wednesday started off as a typical Lakeside rainy day and turned into a beautiful afternoon which was spent walking in Wast Water.

Thursday again started off in wet weather and soon cleared again for a great walk from Derwent Water up Walla Crag across the A591 to Castlerigg Stone Circle and back down to Derwent Water via Castlehead. The views from here across Derwent Water to Catbells are worth the hike to the top alone.

  1. Your first photo is a great scenery with a wonderful sky, made us want to find our hiking boots and go for a loooong walk! The middle one is pure beauty, love the reflections int the water; like a mirror, and the great colors –
that being said; the last one is our favorite. Tranquil and relaxed, good composition with the three boats in front and a great sunset.
    Nice work!!

  2. Great photos Mike. Particularly liked the one of Birker Fell looking to the Scafells – a fantastic wild landscape which I know well. I don’t know how much walking you have done in that area but I would recommend Whit Fell and Devoke Water as great places for walking and photography where you are unlikely to see anyone else all day.

  3. beautiful shots!
